Why do I need this medicine?
Estradiol and Dydrogesterone are combined in this medicine.

This medicine is used as a hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in menopausal women. It is used to treat menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes, vaginal dryness, and itch.

Estradiol + Dydrogesterone is also used to prevent osteoporosis (thinning and weakening of bones) in postmenopausal women.
How do I take this medicine?
Take Estradiol + Dydrogesterone exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

You may take this medicine with or without food. Try to take it at the same time each day.

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.

Estradiol + Dydrogesterone must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue taking this medicine even when you feel better. Do not stop taking it unless instructed by the doctor.
What should I do if I have forgotten to take this medicine?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If more than 12 hours have passed since your missed dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
When should I not use this medicine?
Alert your doctor if you have the following conditions:
  • current, suspected, or history of breast cancer
  • current or suspected cancer that is sensitive to sex hormones e.g. endometrial cancer (cancer of the lining of the womb), meningioma (a tumour of the tissue layer covering the brain and spinal cord)
  • untreated endometrial hyperplasia (excessive thickening of the womb lining)
  • unexplained vaginal bleeding
  • current or history of blood clots e.g. deep vein thrombosis (blood clots in your leg veins), pulmonary embolism (blood clots in a lung artery)
  • inherited or acquired blood clotting disorders
  • porphyria (an inherited disorder that causes skin or nervous system abnormalities)
  • heart problems e.g. recent heart attack, angina (chest pain which occurs when the heart does not receive enough blood supply)
  • recent stroke
  • curent or history of liver disease
as Estradiol + Dydrogesterone may not be suitable for you.

Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant. If you become pregnant while being treated with Estradiol + Dydrogesterone, alert your doctor immediately. This medicine may cause harm to your unborn child.

Do not breastfeed while you are being treated with this medicine.
What should I take note of while taking this medicine?
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
  • family history of breast cancer in a first-degree relative
  • history or risk factors of blood clotting disorder
  • history of excessive thickening of the womb lining
  • high blood pressure
  • low levels of thyroid or parathyroid hormones
  • high levels of cholesterol or fats in the blood
  • endometriosis (abnormal growth of tissues outside the womb)
  • uterine fibroids (noncancerous tumours that grow in or around the womb)
  • hereditary angioedema (inherited disorder characterised by recurrent swelling of the limbs, face or airways)
  • severe headache or migraine (severe throbbing pain or pulsating sensation usually affecting one side of the head that is often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound)
  • systemic lupus erythematosus (autoimmune disease that causes inflammation of certain organs in the body)
  • chorea minor (a movement disorder that usually occurs after a certain bacterial infection)
  • otosclerosis (hearing disorder due to abnormal bone growth in the ear)
  • epilepsy (fits or seizures)
  • asthma
  • diabetes
  • gallstones
  • kidney disease
This medicine is not indicated to be used for contraception.

Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving Estradiol + Dydrogesterone to the elderly. Elderly people may be more sensitive to the side effects.

If you are going to have certain laboratory tests or an operation, including minor surgery and dental work, inform your doctor or dentist that you are taking this medicine.

Why is it important to keep my appointments with the doctor?

Keep your appointments with your doctor. Your doctor needs to monitor your condition and check your response to the medication regularly.
  • Routine tests (e.g. blood cholesterol or sugar levels, thyroid function, bone exam, gynaecological exam, breast exam) may be done while you are being treated with this medicine. Your doctor will advise you about how often you need to have these tests.
  • Your blood pressure may rise to unsafe levels without you noticing it. Monitor your blood pressure regularly during treatment.
  • Regular monitoring for signs of unusual bleeding or spotting, blood clot formation, and migraine may also be needed.
What side effects could I experience?
Estradiol + Dydrogesterone may cause any of the following side effects: headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, stomach wind, indigestion, back pain, nervousness, depressed mood, tiredness, breast pain or tenderness, and weight gain or loss.

Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience any of the following:
  • rashes, breathlessness, swelling of the face, eyes, mouth, or throat
  • weakness or numbness on one side of the body, trouble speaking, vision problems, changes in balance or coordination
  • pain, swelling and tenderness in your leg accompanied by redness and warmth
  • shortness of breath, chest pain, cough which may contain blood
  • chest pain, tightness or pressure, irregular heartbeat, pain that may spread to the arms, jaw, neck, shoulder or back, weakness, lightheadedness
  • new lump in the breast or armpit, changes in the nipple, dimpling of the breast skin
  • irregular or unusual vaginal bleeding or spotting, painful urination
  • yellowing of the skin or eyes, abdominal pain, swelling in the legs and ankles
  • severe headache, double vision or other visual disturbances
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Can I take this with other medicines?
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:
  • medicines for hepatitis C infection e.g. ombitasvir, paritaprevir and ritonavir combination regimen, dasabuvir, glecaprevir and pibrentasvir combination
  • medicines for epilepsy (fits or seizures) e.g. phenobarbital, phenytoin, carbamazepine
  • medicines used in organ transplants or certain immune disorders e.g. tacrolimus, ciclosporin
  • medicines for HIV infection e.g. nevirapine, nelfinavir, ritonavir, efavirenz
  • medicines to treat TB (lung infection known as tuberculosis) e.g. rifampicin, rifabutin
  • fentanyl (strong painkiller)
  • theophylline (asthma medicine)
  • St. John's wort (herbal medicine)
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements, and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
What special dietary instructions should I follow?
Avoid alcohol.
How should I store this medicine?
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
